The question I keep coming back to
Who's actually on the other side of this, and what do they need to feel like it's genuinely for them?
The short version
01I've spent twenty years chasing the same question from three different directions: who's actually on the other side of this, and what do they need to feel like it's genuinely for them?
Recruitment technology taught me to think about the person nobody was designing for. Broadcast, including the BBC's coverage of the 2012 Olympics, taught me what it costs to get it wrong in front of everyone at once. Six years at Manchester City Football Club, building a fan platform that grew past eight million members, taught me what it looks like when people genuinely love the thing you've built.
Now I run Twenty Signals, a digital consultancy in Bangor, County Down, and I still ask the same question of everything I work on.
